a) Job Specifications

Duties and responsibilities: -

  1. Overall supervision of the security functions in the Service;
  2. Coordinating, formulating and implementing security management policies, strategies and standard operating procedures;
  3. Supervising security officers and outsourced security personnel;
  4. Ensure the security, safety and well-being of all personnel, visitors and the premises;
  5. Secure premises and personnel by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment and access points; permitting entry;
  6. Ensure operation of security equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; evaluating new equipment and techniques;
  7. Respond to emergencies to provide necessary assistance to employees and customers;
  8. Protect the Service’s assets relative to theft, assault, fire and other safety issues;
  9. Maintain environment by monitoring and setting building and equipment controls;
  10. Maintain organization's stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements;
  11. Investigate security breaches;
  12. Prevent losses and damage by reporting irregularities, informing violators of policy and procedures; restraining trespassers;
  13. Complete reports by recording observations, information, occurrences and surveillance activities; interviewing witnesses; obtaining signatures;
  14. Maintain environment by monitoring and setting building and equipment controls;
  15. Maintain organization's stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements;
  16. Adhere to all company service and operating standards;
  17. Ensure institutional compliance with relevant laws and regulations governing security;
  18. Follow procedures for various initiatives, including fire prevention, property patrol, traffic control and accident investigations;
  19. Liaise with external security providers to ensure the institution is secured.

b) Persons Specification

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: -

  1. At least ten (10) years’ experience, with three (3) as a senior officer in Government Security
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Criminology/Security Management or elated discipline;
  3. Master’s degree in Criminology/Security Management or related field;
  4. Membership of a relevant professional body in good standing is a must;
  5. Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks;
  6. Compliance with chapter six of the constitution.
